Retired Capilano University professor Liz Young told us about the pioneering research into genetics by an unassuming but dedicated Augustinian Friar named Gregor Johann Mendel. He did his research using garden peas to observe the impact of what we now call dominant and recessive genes. His work went unrecognized during the mid 19th century but his research was rediscovered in the early 20th century and had a major impact on the scientific discipline of genetics.

Liz went "old school" and tought the class using her hand drawn diagrams and charts on newsprint. It was an engaging and informative presentation. Thank you. Liz!
