Mother's Day Tea & Book SaleSaturday, May 4, 2024 Join us for our annual Tea in advance of Mother's Day. Enjoy your tea or coffee with delicious fresh scones with cream and homemade jam. Buy a new-to-you book from our assortment of books for all ages and interests. A limited supply of hanging baskets will be for sale - a great gift for Mother's Day. If you have books to donate for the sale, please drop them off in the Rice Room (next to the office) this Sunday. A Seniors' Moment LunchFriday, May 17, 2024 Our Seniors' Moment Lunch in May will be on May 17 - there is no lunch on May 4. Our special guests will be the choral group The Londoners. They are back for a return engagement featuring spirited renditions of your favorite show tunes and other songs. Doors open at 11:30 am and lunch is served shortly after noon. The presentation begins at about 12:30 and lasts between 30 and 40 minutes. We wrap up by 1:15. We ask that people register by noon on Wednesday May 15 by leaving a message at 604 987-0432. Let us know if you require a vegetarian option. A suggested minimum donation of $10 is gratefully received which covers (most) of the cost of the food. All are welcome! Hearts United for Ukraine: A Celebration of Culture and CompassionMay 11 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church On May 11, Gloria Dei is hosting a special event dinner, "Hearts United for Ukraine: A Celebration of Culture and Compassion" from 6-9PM and we would be delighted for you and members of your congregation to join us. All proceeds will go to support "The Canada-Ukraine Surgical Aid Program" – CUSAP providing post-trauma reconstruction to both civilian and military casualties of war in Ukraine, and "Help Us Help" summer camp programs for Ukrainian orphaned children. The fundraising dinner was conceived by the newcomer Ukrainian women of Gloria Dei. The evening will feature authentic Ukrainian cuisine, cash wine/beer bar, bandura music and folk songs by vocal ensemble Družba (Friendship). Canadian actor and activist Andrew Petriew will be our guest speaker. He will bring us a fresh perspective on the situation in Ukraine from his recent trip where he led a therapeutic Spring camp for children victims of the war.
